New consult service dramatically increased use of medication for alcohol use disorder
A third of inpatients with alcohol use disorder who were seen by an addiction consult service during their stay received a new prescription for related medication, compared to less than 1% of similar patients hospitalized before the service launched.

Clinicians had many reasons for not using their secure texting system, study finds
Responses to a survey on barriers to adoption of a hospital system's secure texting platform had five main themes: lack of familiarity, perceiving it as unnecessary and burdensome, perceiving it as an intrusion, battery drain, low usage by others, and lack of trust in it to function as needed.

Dementia associated with increased risk of death or readmission after discharge
A study of recently hospitalized Medicare beneficiaries found that patients with a dementia diagnosis had increased 30-day risk of death or readmission, particularly if they were discharged to the community rather than to nursing facilities.
