A recent study found that patients referred to an inpatient addiction medicine consultation service had significant reductions in 90-day mortality and seven-day hospital readmissions but a significant increase in 30-day ED visits compared to controls with substance use disorder.

Bedspacing not associated with adverse outcomes in general internal medicine patients

Safety-net hospitals sent more patients to postacute facilities under bundled payments
A study of hospitals participating in Medicare's bundled payment program found that those with safety-net status didn't differ from others on postdischarge care cost or quality, but discharged a higher percentage of patients to institutions and a lower percentage to home health care.
