Malnutrition common among patients with ACS, linked to worse outcomes
A retrospective study of Spanish patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) found that while worse malnutrition scores were most strongly related to a lower body mass index, moderate or severe malnourishment was seen in between 8.4% and 36.7% of overweight and obese patients.

Readmission more likely in heart failure patients with low calorie consumption
A small nutrition study found that all of the heart failure inpatients who reported maintaining a low-sodium diet were consuming an insufficient quantity of calories before hospital admission.

Nutritional support didn't reduce mortality in inpatients with high C-reactive protein levels
A secondary analysis of a trial that randomized patients at risk of malnutrition to protocol-guided individualized nutritional support or standard hospital food found benefits only in patients with low to moderate levels of inflammation.

Nutritional support associated with improved outcomes in malnourished, at-risk inpatients
Findings of an updated systematic review and meta-analysis suggest that all hospitalized patients should be screened with a validated nutrition-screening tool, and those at risk should receive individualized nutrition support, an accompanying editorial said.
