From 1995 to 2017, 13 states and the District of Columbia have passed laws on flu vaccine in hospital workers, most requiring hospitals to provide vaccination onsite for employees and some mandating vaccination or face masks for unvaccinated workers.

Adult patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza who experienced acute cardiovascular events had a median length of stay of five days, with 31% admitted to the ICU, 14% requiring mechanical ventilation, and 7% dying in the hospital.

Influenza vaccination administration during hospitalization appears to be safe
Compared with patients who were never vaccinated or were vaccinated at other times, those who received influenza vaccinations in the hospital had a lower risk of several outcomes, including readmissions, in the week after discharge.

Influenza associated with worse in-hospital outcomes in heart failure patients
Rates of in-hospital mortality, acute respiratory failure with and without mechanical ventilation, and acute kidney injury with and without dialysis were higher in heart failure patients who had influenza versus those who did not.
