COVID-19 hospitalization carries higher VTE risk than flu regardless of vaccination status
The 90-day absolute risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) was 5.3% in patients hospitalized with influenza compared to 9.5% in COVID-19 patients hospitalized before vaccine availability and 10.9% in patients with COVID-19 after vaccines became available, a study found.

Higher dose of dexamethasone, noninvasive ventilation didn't improve COVID-19 mortality
A randomized trial compared two doses of dexamethasone as well as high-flow nasal oxygen, continuous positive airway pressure, and standard oxygen support in ICU patients with COVID-19 and respiratory failure and found no significant differences.

Common outpatient meds, interferon beta show positive results for COVID-19
A retrospective study found lower mortality rates in COVID-19 patients who were taking drugs including statins, metformin, and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, while a trial found faster recovery in patients who received interferon beta in addition to remdesivir.

Pulse ox less accurate in non-White patients, affects COVID-19 treatment

Remdesivir, ECMO, recommendations on convalescent plasma in COVID-19
The Solidarity trial concluded that remdesivir didn't significantly reduce mortality in ventilated patients and had a small effect on other hospitalized patients. Another study identified factors predicting which patients would benefit from extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The NIH changed its recommendations on convalescent plasma.
