Study analyzes sex differences worldwide in patients hospitalized for heart failure
Data from 44 countries in REPORT-HF found that in all geographic regions women in the hospital with heart failure were less likely to receive diagnostic tests or guideline-directed care than men.

Most asymptomatic C. difficile carriers in health care settings did not progress to infection
In a study at three U.S. hospitals and affiliated long-term care facilities, most patients who were found to be carriers of Clostridioides difficile had cleared the bacteria on subsequent testing, and only 13.4% were subsequently diagnosed with infection.

Acute chest pain in women vs. men treated differently across the care spectrum
A cohort study in Australia found that women with acute chest pain were less likely than men to receive guideline-directed care across most measures, including transport to the hospital, prehospital administration of aspirin or analgesia, and 12-lead electrocardiogram.

New score developed to improve risk stratification in type 2 myocardial infarction
The T2-risk score incorporates age, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, diabetes, myocardial ischemia on electrocardiogram, heart rate, anemia, estimated glomerular filtration rate, and maximal cardiac troponin concentration.

Physician gestalt safer but less efficient than prediction models for diagnosing bacteremia
In patients with suspected infection, physicians estimating on their own had fewer false negatives, but two validated prediction models more accurately identified the group of patients who could go without blood cultures because they did not have bacteremia, a Japanese study found.
