Patient-reported behavioral, economic factors predict mortality after cardiac hospitalization

Two in five HF patients not on guideline-directed medical therapy at discharge
A study of Veterans Affairs hospitals found that 42% of patients hospitalized for heart failure (HF) in 2013 to 2019 were not prescribed all guideline-recommended medications at discharge, and those receiving care at urban hospitals were even less likely to receive the treatments.

Early dapagliflozin initiation in acute heart failure reduced diuretic doses for inpatients

Delirium in the hospital may have a dose-response association with dementia
Hospitalized patients with delirium had three times the risk for incident dementia over 5.25 years of follow-up versus those without, and each additional delirium episode was associated with a 20% increase in dementia risk, an Australian study found.

Inappropriate CAP diagnosis common in hospitalized adults
A prospective cohort study of 48 hospitals in Michigan found that 12% of patients hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) appeared to have been diagnosed incorrectly and that of these, 87.6% received a full course of antibiotics.

Antipsychotic medications not effective in ICU patients with delirium

RSV, other viruses associated with severe respiratory disease, length of stay in adult inpatients
